The Special Events Committee plans and organizes for certain church wide events that are not sponsored by other committees (such as education or the UMW). The purpose of these events could be evangelical, recreational, educational, or spiritual. All age groups within the church are considered and targeted.
Rally Day
The events calendar begins with “Rally Day”, which is typically held in early September. The Rally Day agenda consists of reenergizing the congregation at the start of a new church school year, setting the Sunday School classes, educating church members to the various church committees, and providing a fellowship event.
Fellowship Hour
Each Sunday after church, a fellowship hour is held. This consists of light food and beverage and is held in the narthex.
Thanksgiving Dinner
The events committee works with the youth committee to stage the potluck Thanksgiving dinner, which is usually held two Sundays before Thanksgiving.
Christmas Party
An adult Christmas Party has been held the past few years, and will be held again this year. It is held on a Saturday night in December, and it is a fellowship event.
Other Events
Throughout the remainder of the year, various other events can be organized. Typical examples include a family paddle tennis party, trips to see various plays and shows, talent nights, and fund raisers. Events of a more spiritual nature, such as a weekend retreat.
How To Get Involved
All ideas for events are welcome and should be directed to the special events committee. Anyone within the congregation is welcome to help plan or execute an event.
