Missions and Outreach

One of the banners in our sanctuary says, “Warm Hearts, Willing Hands.”  That describes our congregation’s approach to missions.  We serve others in many ways, formally as a church community and through individual efforts of many of our members.

Hands-on Mission Work
Our congregation is very active in hands on mission work. Read below for our ongoing Missions programs that you can get involved in.

Meals-On-Wheels
The Service: Meals-on-Wheels of New Canaan is a non-profit community service which brings two meals, five days a week, to eligible citizens of New Canaan so that they may continue living independently and maintain their own households. We have about 25 volunteer from our Church who deliver each and every Wednesday throughout the year.  Volunteering to deliver is always welcome either by substituting and/or on a continual basis. Contact: MOW's UMC Coordinator.

Midnight Run
We sponsor six Midnight Runs a year to provide fellowship, as well as food and clothing, to the homeless in NYC.

Christmas Doves
We help many have a better holiday through the presents collected for the Christmas Dove program.

Americares' Homefront
Our more handy members work in repairing houses with the Americares’ Homefront program.

Sunday School Missions
Our children are active in many Sunday School missions, including raising funds for Heifer International and collecting supplies for school children in impoverished areas.

Youth Missions
Our youth groups perform service projects during the year.

Financial Support For Missions
We provide financial support to a number of organizations that provide physical and emotional comfort to those in need.  This year we provided funds to the following organizations:

* United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)
* Heifer International Project
* United Methodist Homes
* United Methodist camps
* Pivot Ministries
* Midnight Run
* Interfaith Council of Southwestern Connecticut
* Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County
* Christian Community Action Food Bank
* Domestic Violence Crisis Center
* Overseas ministries Study Center
* HELP for South Africa
* Kairos Prison Ministry

Other Mission Efforts
Interfaith Council - Several members represent our church on the Interfaith Council of New Canaan -- a group, composed of representatives of all houses of faith in New Canaan, that meets monthly to review items of common interest (special programs, education and support for certain programs such as Camp Hand-in-Hand or ABC House or the cottages).

Additional Organizations We Support
Our church supports the following organizations and are accessible for them to help and support by individual volunteering.

* United Methodist Camps
* Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County
* Christian Community Action Food Bank in Norwalk

How To Get Involved
If you would like to help with our missions work, or just get to know more about it, please contact any chair or member of the missions committee.

If you know of or are involved in a worthy organization please let the Missions committee know so they can consider getting the word out to others and, if possible and necessary, assist financially.
